Our attraction is Electrical or Magnetic?? REAL WORLD PHYSIC QUESTION!!
My girlfriend and I are sitting on our bed both of us on our laptops. I have a mac book pro with a magnetic plug and she has an hp. When both of our laptops are plugged in and I reach out to touch her with one hand while keeping the other hand on the macbook I can feel a tingling vibration on my finger tips (not an electric shock). The sensation is like touching a massager (not joking). If we touch each other's ear lobe we can hear it!
If she unplugs her laptop or I unplug mine the sensation goes away. If I remove my other hand from the laptop sensation goes away.
I am thinking this phenomena has something to do with the magnetic plug generating feedback? and creating an electric potential difference??
For a follow up question... this can't be healthy right?!
I tried this at work today and it happens with every outlet! I think there is something wrong with my power supply or my computer.
This is a sign that the grounding connection in your wall outlet is faulty, or that one outlet has the hot wires reversed compared to the other one.
Pick up a cheap plug-in tester from Radio Shack and check your outlets. The vibrating feeling actually *is* an electric shock, but the resistance in your skin is high enough that you're not getting very much current.
