High Voltage Capacitor
Why does a HV capacitor increase the voltage output of a flyback transformer?

I noticed when I was fixing the hookup of a flyback transformer that putting a high voltage, (relatively) low capacitance capacitor between the two leads increases the voltage (by how much I can't say, but its quite a bit). Does anyone know why this happens?

With no capacitor you are measuring a sawtooth or square wave voltage and so will get an average value. If it was a pure sine wave we would call it the RMS value. With a capacitor connected you are smoothing out the sawtooth similar to when you build a DC power supply unit. So the output Voltage you measure is a peak voltage not an RMS or average
